  • Brownells new retro rifles.

I love the idea of this. They seem pricey but when you consider how much you would have to spend to build one, they aren't terribly high. Brownells has coupons out every week that would knock 30 to 50 dollars off too.

It's really not that high. Takes a lot of money to build a product with proprietary parts, that realistically not that many people will buy.

That's the one I'd like to have.

If you are talking $ for performance, then yes it's a terrible price. But it's like parts for a Model T. They cost a lot more than new parts for a new car, even though the performance is horrible. This is a reproduction of a 55 year old rifle. A lot of the parts aren't made anymore. So the company has to make them. If you just want a good rifle, buy a Colt 6920. It's a much better deal. This is for people who specifically want an old style AR. I would not recommend this to anyone as their first AR. Performance will not be as good as what you can get from a Colt 6920 for $400 dollars less.

Really, the 5.56mm version is not interesting at all to me. But the AR-10 repro is very enticing. And it even uses SR-25 type mags, just like the original. Or was that the other way around?

SWEET!!!!! I did not know that pornography was allowed here, but since it was GUN "pornography".........

Those photo's sure stirred my loins!!!!

I agree, if you were to hunt down all the stuff to build one yourself, You may have even more into it, than what they are asking. Just like building a custom car, you lose money every time!

I would definitely get the "slab side" model with the three prong flash suppressor.......the model 601.

I like the retro rifles. I have two and both are light weight. My CAR15 type has the 16" lightweight barrel and no forward assist. It weights less than my 10" AR pistol! They are not that cheap to build so the price is reasonable and I expect great quality from Brownells. Thx-Ace

I want a green furniture 601 and a brown furniture AR10 with the cocking handle inside the carrying handle.

Maybe I can afford to purchase one of each within the next couple of years, if I start saving right now. seriously

So I bought the Brownell 601 retro rifle, had it a few days now and really like it .
I have not shot it yet, too cold here to go to the range. Not worried about function at all.
I went ahead and installed the small parts that Brownell didn't make retro, a Lil ocd here, I even got a real M-16 stock set because let's face it , the Brownell feels cheap, chinzy and plastic. And Kermit Green ! I intended to paint the stocks green like USAF 601s but I made the mistake of putting them on the rifle , just to see if the fit was good , now I'm thinking I like black. I bought the cheapest grade of furniture " fair " but these are much nicer then I expected, even showing ,I think, trace of the mottling some like.
Over all I should have bought parts , assembled myself and save money but I don't mind supporting the industry.
What should I do about the paint ? I thought about painting the Brownell stocks the correct color ,but they just feel wrong. Even the sound of my fingers caressing the forend is wrong.
I did read that some 601s were sent to other agency's with black furniture so ...
I think I need to shoot and contemplate for a while before I make a decision.
                        sorry for the long rant
