  • MGI adjustable gas tube

16" AR has severe over pressure gas issues, will at times pull the head off even USGI ammo. Anyone tried a MGI adjustable tube? I can see where these would work but how do they do long term as to clogging or burning out? I have done the heavier buffer and spring which has made the rifle function well enough but I feel this is sorta like not having enough brake to stop an automobile so you throw out an anchor to help stop. I'd prefer eliminating the gas problem, not simply compensating for it. Another ? if I may.....Would a heavier full auto bolt carrier slow cycling down enough to help with this?

MGI has good rep with 300 whisper user's, but I've never tried one on 223

Why not just replace the barrel? The gas port apparently is not to spec?

I'd suspect that it has the wrong spring and buffer in it. Try replacing them first.

ISC, did the spring and buffer, they helped but did not solve the problem 100%. Tread Head, yes, changing the barrel would seem the fix but as its not my rifle I can't tell someone they have to spend another hundred bucks on a rifle they already paid good money for. May come to that, if it does, the barrel will come out of my pocket (ouch!) as I sold him the rifle a few years ago. Didn't intentionally sell a bad rifle, it was messed up when I got it, thought I had it fixed but...

            I see.

Might sound a little radical, but what about a weee bit of a pinch to the gas tube itself? right behind the front site area. Trouble is that you could over do it and there ain;t no going back after that except with a new tube.
