Howdy from Texas....
I have two guns, a Rem 700 police and a M1A that I would like to put a good scope on. Due to money going to other preps, etc, I would like to find a good scope for each gun, both for under 1,000.00 total. The rings will be separate (Badger). Any favorites, ideas? Any help is *greatly* appreciated. Range will be 100 yds to 500, possibly 500+ Looking for specific recommendations and why/what they bring to the table.

I don't know what the current Leupold prices are but Leupold has good scopes.

Pay for quality once and let the company worry about supporting them. Buy Leupold Mark 3's and don't look back. Should be able to get two for under $1,000. I would put a good 6X or up on the M1A and at least a 8X on the Remington 700.
If you can find good varibles for the same price, I would say buy them. Say a good 3x9 or 4x12. There is enough compitition out there right now so that you should find them in your budget right now if you shop hard. |

I see the Mark 4s, but no Mark 3's anywhere - I'm not sure if I'm missing something. are their particular scope features I should be looking for for these rifles?
thanks again for your help, i'm lost in the woods on this one.

Leupold's come in three grades. The 2's the 3's and then the top of the line Mark 4's. The 2's and 3's usually do not have the words 'Mark' in front of them. My bad, Sorry for the confusion.

Buy once... cry once. One thing not to skimp on is glass. If I were in your shoes, Id choose one weapon to top off and spend the $1000 or more on it. I have run the SWFA Super Sniper (10X), Leupold Mk4 LR3.5-10, and IOR. I bought a second IOR (2.5-10 FFP mil knobs and reticle). I wouldnt spend the $$ on a Leupold vs an IOR. The glass on the IOR is just much better. I am contemplating a third IOR for my Savage. I have also used a Millett LRS that is OK. But at 1/8 moa knobs with no turn indicators or whatever you call them, its there as a place holder. It will work though and was very affordable at under $300 at the time. I think they have updated the model a bit so it may be worth a look. I am holding off the final purchase till some more reviews of the Vortex PST line come up. They seem to be shooting or the budget minded shooter with decent features for the $$. Just need to see how they execute the units.

Nikon buckmasters are good scopes. Ultra clear glass. Won't break the bank either. Other than that, Leupold.

For the money I really like the Bushnell 3200 Elite Tactical 5-15X. It is a fantastic scope that rivals any and all of my Leupolds for clarity as well as brightness. I have them installed on 5 long range rifles up to and including my Bushmaster BA-50 .50 BMG Rifle.
![]() My most recent installation has been on my Kimber 8400 L.A. Police Tactical Model in .300 Win. Mag. This weapon comes from the factory with a 20 MOA Steel Picatinny Rail. The Bushnell 3200 Elite Tactical has more than enough vertical adjustment for it to shoot dead on at 100 yards. ![]() This same scope has really worked well on my Savage 110 FCP-K in .300 Win. Mag. also. ![]() I also have them mounted on both my Savage 10-FP, and my Savage 12-F/TR, both in .308. For the money you will be hard pressed to find a better scope. The cheapest place I know of to obtain one is Bruno's Shooters Supply here in Phoenix. They are very good to deal with, and ship promptly. These are both the Savage 12-FT/R, and the Savage 10-FP. Both are wearing the Bushnell 3200 Elite Tactical 5-15X. Bill T.
